Dealing with the “Splash Factor”

To stop this, we wrapped our elements in a splash-proof housing with seals that actually work. We bumped up the IP rating—which is just a fancy way of saying we’ve locked the doors to keep water away from the electrical terminals and the heating elements. Then there’s the fog. If you’re running a cold warehouse, condensation loves to settle on the reflectors and lenses. It creates this thin, cloudy layer that scatters the heat. Instead of the warmth hitting the floor where your people are, it gets trapped in a cloud of mist. We added a moisture-resistant coating to the reflectors. Now, the water just slides off, and the heat actually goes where it’s supposed to.
The Balancing Act
Now, you might be thinking: “If you seal everything up to keep water out, doesn’t the heat get trapped inside?” You’re right. It does. When you kill the airflow to protect the wiring, things get hot. Really hot. To handle that, we swapped in high-temp gaskets and wiring that can take the heat without melting. Just one tip: make sure your mounting brackets aren’t blocked by other gear. The housing still needs a little room to breathe.
Why This Actually Matters
Most of these heaters don’t just “wear out.” They die because the terminals corrode or the tubes snap from thermal shock. By blocking the splashes and stopping the fog, we’ve basically put a shield around the parts that usually fail. This means the units last longer. And the best part?
