Infrared heaters deliver radiant heat. They warm people and surfaces directly, instead of trying to heat the air. In the real world, you feel comfortable faster, and drafts don’t steal the heat as quickly. A typical electric infrared heater pulls 1.2–1.5 kW, which lines up nicely with most off-grid battery and inverter rigs. Safety is built in. Tip-over protection shuts the heater off if it gets knocked over, and an IP rating—often IP34 or higher—helps it stand up to typical outdoor conditions.

The details you need to get right
Solar compatibility comes down to system capacity. A 1.5 kW heater running for two hours needs roughly 3 kWh of usable battery capacity, plus margin for inverter efficiency and other loads. Size the inverter to handle the heater’s startup load, and go with a pure sine wave inverter when you can for cleaner power. If the heater is staying outside permanently, pick a unit with an appropriate IP rating and keep it protected from direct water spray. **Expect performance to dip in very cold conditions.**The heater delivers comfort, but it won’t make the space feel like a heated living room when the ambient temperature drops well below freezing.
